For June 3rd - 26th, 2010 The Sugar Creek Art Center Welcomes Visiting Artists
Mezzie Ash - The figure intrigues me and one of my challenges is to capture the likeness of people: mostly people I know; but also ones I don’t know. In my practice I pursue the representation of our three-dimensional world using fabrics in a two-dimensional art form. Hue, value, and contrast are my tools. I also tell stories. Stories about conflict and resolution and stories about love: the love of a child, or the love of people who seem different. These stories are my stories. Come and listen…
Judy Ireland - I use mixed media on fabric to build layers of color and design that are integrated in unique ways to make a whole. Dyes and textile paints applied in varying ways make a background for techniques such as stamping, silk screening, drawing, appliqué and foiling. Stitching by hand or by machine unites layers of fabric and sometimes paper. Attaching found objects or beads creates yet another layer of design, usually the last.
Saturday July 10th - Special Event with Performing Artist Emily Ann Thompson & Nine Irish Brothers - Emily Ann Thompson’s Celtic fiddling is lively, passionate and homegrown with an American flare. She plays traditional Irish, Scottish, and Cape Breton tunes in highly energetic and original arrangements. There is a $5.00 cover charge.
Nine Irish Brothers will be serving traditional Irish food and beer priced very reasonably.
